Peru's Child Prostitution Law . Peru’s Congress enacted a law to punish those promoting child prostitution. Law 30802 was enacted to “guarantee the protection and integrity of children” entering any commercial lodging in the country. This is one way of fighting back against child sex tourism. I (M/29) have never had any chances from online websites (tinder, okc, pof, match, etc) but throughout these months I've been relearning my language and talking to people from other countries. I've been using this app called Tandem, where you can connect with people who speak your language, and practice with people. I met this girl (F/25) online and it first started off with simple conversations.
Afterward, we exchanged whatsapp phone numbers (I think that's how it works) and really talk daily, even sending voice messages to eachother. Since she's from Peru, there's a lot that we can talk about overall. I'm glad that she's interested in talking with me, and I'm glad to do the same. Maybe in the future, I would like to travel and meet her in Peru, but for now, I'm just happy talking with someone during this pandemic.
So, some days ago I asked people to critique my PoF profile. I got good feedback and thank you all for it, but PoF just lacks a lot of quality/character.
So I made an okcupid account. While the messaging system is less than desirable (to a degree) I am very much enjoying the matching of people with other countries.
I have chatted with someone in France, Peru, Canada, and Scotland. Being in the U.S., I feel so limited in my interactions with the people of the world due to our location on this rock that is hurtling through space. It is fun and nice to be able to expand my horizons and chat with people from around the globe! Potentially making new friends, and even better, potential people I could go visit and or, who knows, maybe fall in love? Edit: (ok I get it, falling in love is a bad idea, and I said it in haste. I could never fall in love with someone over the internet without meeting them in person. :-P. I didn't really consider the ramifications of saying such a thing as love/visit, and not expecting to get the responses you are giving me. You all make excellent points, but I will not edit it out. I will own it, I said it)
Surprisingly, I have had a difficult time getting conversations going (at all, even a reply) with people actually near me. (granted Kansas, let alone Topeka, Kansas is not the best spot to find people, or perhaps, people like me).
Yes yes, I know I have only been doing it for 3-5 days now, but if it is anything like PoF (plenty of fish) after 6 months, I still never quite got a date going. But hey, I will persist!
How have your experiences been with people from other countries? If not for love/romance, but also for friendliness and expanding one's cultural awareness and worldliness?
Edit: And yes, real people, not fake scammers. At least through my conversations they don't appear to be scammers... yet.
Just thought I'd share my results over the past couple of months. I'm not complaining. I know this is a numbers game. Just thought I'd share.
I started recording at the end of July, 2013, and I've changed my profile on all three sites multiple times.

Here are a few examples of messages I send. A Complete random selection, and obviously a lot of content is contextual:
- Hi, You seem lovely... and a love of canoeing is just a plus! Does that love extend to cottages? Let's chat! - Netbug PS: Who says you ever need to really grow up? :)
- Hi, Deirdra. I was about to log off for the day when your profile popped up, and after reading, I was thinking that tacos, a nice cab sav, and a boardgame seems like an awesome evening at the cottage. What's your "go-to" board game? As much as I like Catan, I have to admit I'm a sucker for classic Trivial Pursuit. - Netbug
- I'll bet you have an entire zombie apocalypse survival plan mapped out, don't you? Probably has some awesome moats, and a fortress. Very likely to have some form of tank involved. What's your favourite part of this plan you have?
- Hi, You seem lovely... and having a cat named Kebab is just an awesome bonus! Let's chat! – Netbug PS: I still hope that I'll get an owl from Hogwarts.
I'll keep plugging away, but it is fairly exhausting and I'd be lying if I didn't say a little discouraging.
Here's the previous version of my profile:
My self-summary I think that being at the cottage in the summer with a glass of wine or a beer and a good book is perhaps the most enjoyable way to spend my time I've found thus far.
Yes, I have a geeky side; I feed it regularly and give it shelter. It treats me well.
I like thinking big thoughts, and little thoughts and sometimes you find them in the oddest of places.
I'm at the gym at least 4 days a week; mostly so that when I'm being pursued by zombies or raptors, I can nimbly make it to safety in style. It would be nice to find people who share this belief, because when the zombie-raptor apocalypse comes, it would be lonely when you all get eaten. (I just added CrossFit to my routine, and despite the potential for injury if you haven’t done big lifts before, it’s an amazing workout).
I've been a few places which were fantastic (New Zealand and Australia most recently) and there are many more which I'd love to visit. Someone I met recently suggested Germany, and I must say that Oktoberfest looks amazing.
I admit that I will pay $10 for one good import beer rather than $5 for a pitcher of domestic. I'd also wear a three-piece to work if I could, and bowler hats are under-rated.
What I’m doing with my life Right now I work for a telecom with my eyes on an eventual MBA or law degree.
The above of course will be moot when I sell my first novel and become an overnight success with Hollywood beating down my door. There's also a guitar behind me right now that I really would like to spend some time improving my skills upon.
I always try to leave people better than how I found them.
I think there are some awesome adventures out there just waiting to be discovered; I’d love to buy a car and drive all the way down the west coast, through Mexico, and down to Peru.
If I was independently wealthy I would most likely work with big cats. Or dragons. Cuz everything is better with dragons.
I’m really good at Breaking stuff. And then fixing stuff... usually.
The first things people usually notice about me My devilishly good looks. Soon after, my delusions.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food BOOKS: Harry Potter by JK Rowling, Winning by Jack Welch, A Short History of Everything by Bill Bryson. Anything by Robert J. Sawyer or Matthew Reilly are also excellent reads. I read Ender's Game something like seventeen times (though the author is a homophobic jackass). Also I've been reading a fair amount of graphic novels lately. We3 was really awesome and sad. I love goodreads.com. I've also got to admit that the Spooks series is awesome and I can't wait to see what they do with the movie.
MUSIC: As far as music goes, my music directory is pushing 80 gigs right now with very broad tastes. From Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, to The Cat Empire, to Dave Brubeck, to Nightwish, to Johann Sebastian Bach. Right now, Dire Straits Brothers in Arms is playing and yesterday I stumbled upon a performance by Rodrigo y Gabriela which blew my mind.
MOVIES: I would say my top four films, for the moment, are The Lord of the Rings (it's just one big movie), The Shawshank Redemption, Let The Right One In, and Singin' In The Rain. Evil Dead is up there as well. And I really enjoy the Fast & Furious series... it's a guilty pleasure. There's a tonne to list here; you name a movie and I've probably seen it, and more often than not, enjoyed it. Truthfully, I would like to see every movie that comes out, bad or good, I love getting lost in a story. My collection must be past 1000 movies at this point.
TELEVISION: Favourite TV series, The West Wing, Firefly (I still hold on to hope that it will come back...), Studio 60, Game of Thrones, Buffy, Angel, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, and Entourage. Dexter is also awesome and I’m so glad that both it and The Newsroom have started up again.
SURFING: TED, XKCD, and Reddit among many many others. The six things I could never do without - A bed. (seriously, I hated camping just because I didn't have a nice mattress). - Warmth (I'll leave you to think about whether that is literal or emotional) - Good food. - Good friends (yeah! Screw the "not good" ones!) - Books (Sometimes you want to experience an adventure other than your own) - Music
I spend a lot of time thinking about How awesome it would be to have a pet cheetah. I really do spend a disproportionate amount of time pondering that...
On a typical Friday night I am Watching a movie, learning something new, or out with friends.
Or all three.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit I may, or may not, be able to sing most of the songs from Disney’s Aladdin.
I’m looking for • Girls who like guys • Ages 18–99 • Near me • Who are single • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
